The College offers funding for the purposes of treatment or counselling to patients when a complaint is made of sexual abuse of or sexual misconduct towards that patient.
The funded treatment or counselling is confidential, including from the College. It is organized, and provided through, an independent third-party program. Accepting funding for treatment or counselling is voluntary. It is the patient’s choice to contact the independent third-party program if they are approved for funding.
A patient’s eligibility and approval for funding will end after a period of time, if the maximum amount of funding is reached, if the complaint is withdrawn, if the complaint is dismissed, or if a Hearing Tribunal finds that the regulated member’s conduct was not sexual abuse or sexual misconduct.
Please click here to directly email the Complaints Director for further information on funding.
In addition to funding, ACSLPA is committed to preventing and addressing sexual abuse and sexual misconduct by speech-language pathologists and audiologists.
The patient relations program includes providing mandatory education for regulated members, mandatory education for the College’s staff, council members and the membership list of regulated members appointed to Hearing Tribunals or Complaint Review Committees.
Regulated members of ACSLPA are required to complete mandatory education related to sexual abuse and sexual misconduct, including:
Additionally, all new regulated members of ACSLPA must complete the mandatory jurisprudence modules within thirty days.
