Changing from Non-Practicing Status to Practicing at Renewal

I am currently a non-practicing member of ACSLPA. I plan to resume practicing and change my status to practicing in late November. Given than the deadline for renewal is December 31st, I am worried that I may not have enough time to complete the CCP activities as required. What should I do?

Even in this situation where a regulated member may feel constrained by time in completing the CCP activities, it is still possible and expected that they participate in the CCP. All regulated members who wish to renew their practice permit on the general (practicing) register must complete the CCP.

In this situation, there may certainly be risks that regulated member can reflect on for the Risks and Supports Profile; for example, transitioning back to practicing after being non-practicing for some period of time. Regulated members should also be able to reflect on supports that they have or will put into place to manage any risks to their practice.

Certain continuing education categories may also be more practical for regulated members in this situation to complete, e.g., self-study, participation in study groups, or webinars. There is no minimum amount of continuing education hours that must be obtained for the practice year, so regulated members in this situation will only need to complete and reflect on education activities in two different categories to complete the Continuing Education Report.

If regulated members are unable to connect with a peer or colleague to discuss a practice area in the short time between changing their status back to practicing and renewing their practice permit, they will have the option to request for an accommodation to finish their CCP at a later date after their renewal.

The above would also apply to new registrants of ACSLPA who became registered late in the practice year, close to renewal deadline, who also may not have ample time to engage in the CCP activities before the submission deadline.
