March 2025

Dear registrants,

ACSLPA is coming to the end of its 2023-2025 strategic plan and Council will be embarking on the development of a new strategic plan to take the College into 2026 and beyond.

This year’s strategic planning process will provide an opportunity for ACSLPA’s Council to pause and reflect on where the College is now and the desired path forward. Council’s reflections will include looking at:

  • the current legislative, healthcare, and education environments in which the College and our regulated members are operating;
  • emerging issues for registrants and the public; and
  • how ACSLPA’s regulatory services are working.

The important information that was gathered through ACSLPA’s 2024 Registered Member survey will feed into this process. It is another way that this valuable feedback provided by registrants will continue to impact the work of the College and Council’s decisions.

As ACSLPA is tasked with regulating the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology (SLP) in the public interest, another key input into the College’s strategic planning process is information from the public, particularly from Albertans who recently received services from audiologists and SLP’s. ACSLPA is working with Pivotal Research to gather information from clients about their experience accessing SLP and audiology services. Pivotal started by interviewing clients and is finalizing a survey to gather information more broadly. The information gathered will not only inform ACSLPA’s next strategic plan but also inform the work of the College in ways such as helping us prioritize the development and review of key college documents that are of the greatest importance for ensuring Albertans receive the safe, competent and ethical services they seek. Also importantly, information will be shared with you, our registrants, so you can also learn from the information and experiences shared by audiology and SLP clients in our province.

In the coming days you will receive an email from ACSLPA with information about how you can share this opportunity to provide input with your patients and clients. Please consider passing this information along so we can all learn more about Alberta client and patient experiences.

Warm regards,

Melanie
