Supervisees - Keep in Mind
A successful supervised practice period will require you to:
Be mindful of differences in practice environments.
For example:
- you may have to consider new professional practices and be open and flexible to modifying your approach, as needed.
Be aware of different culture-based norms, beliefs, and behaviours such as:
- views on child-rearing,
- formality when interacting with new people, etc.
Familiarize yourself with new professional practice and work environment expectations, as needed.
For example:
- Using a collaborative, client & family-centered approach with clients (as opposed to an ‘expert’ approach – see next topic).
- Demonstrating increased levels of independence and initiative.
Be open to feedback!
Your supervisor can be a resource re: how to incorporate new perspectives into practice.
